The Ronan Times

The Ronan Times

Independent journalism for the Republic of New America and the world it shapes.

Who We Are

The Ronan Times was founded in Underhill, Vermont in 2037 — the same year the Republic of New America ratified its constitution and declared itself to the world. We are the Republic's newspaper of record, serving millions of readers across RONA's nine principalities, the Montreal Special Region, and an international readership that has grown to encompass more than sixty countries.

We are owned by the Ronan Times Trust, an independent, non-profit entity established at the paper's founding with the explicit purpose of insulating our journalism from commercial and political pressure. We accept no government funding. We accept no advertising from any party with a direct interest in our political coverage. Our editorial decisions are made by our newsroom, not our benefactors.

Our Commitment

We believe that an informed citizenry is not a luxury — it is the precondition of self-governance. In a Republic as young, as diverse, and as consequentially positioned as ours, that conviction carries particular weight. RONA faces real threats, real choices, and real uncertainties that will determine what kind of country it becomes. The Ronan Times exists to ensure that the people who will make those decisions have the best possible information on which to base them.

We hold ourselves to the standards of accuracy, fairness, and independence that have defined the best journalism in the North Atlantic tradition. We correct our errors, name our sources when we can, protect them when we must, and stand behind our reporting when it is challenged by those with an interest in its suppression. We do not publish what we cannot verify. We do not suppress what we can.

Where We Are

Our headquarters and primary newsroom are located in Underhill, Vermont — the principality that has served as RONA's administrative and symbolic center since the Republic's founding. We maintain bureaus in Montreal, New York, Philadelphia, New Haven, Brussels, Geneva, Beijing, and London. Our correspondents report from across RONA's principalities and from the international capitals that shape RONA's place in the world.

The Ronan Times publishes continuously online and produces a weekly print edition distributed across RONA and by subscription internationally. Our journalism is available free of charge to all readers within RONA, supported by voluntary subscriptions from international readers and by the Ronan Times Trust's endowment.

Our Leadership

Nadia Obrecht, Editor-in-Chief, joined the Ronan Times at its founding after seventeen years at Die Zeit and the Financial Times. She chairs the Editorial Board and oversees the newsroom's editorial direction.

Yasmin Al-Rashid, Managing Editor, oversees day-to-day newsroom operations and coordinates coverage across bureaus. She joined the Ronan Times from the Associated Press, where she served as North Atlantic bureau chief.
