RICHFORD, Vermont — Sometime Monday afternoon, between the lunch hour and the early-evening crowd, a library patron in Richford tucked a handwritten note among the accumulated messages on the community board and slipped away without saying anything to anyone.

The note asked, simply, whether the board might stay up after Episode Six drops.

It is, by any measure, a small thing. A scrap of paper among dozens. But it is the first note on the board that looks forward rather than inward — the first to address not what the board is, but what it might become.

The board has been growing for several weeks on the back wall of the Richford Public Library's main reading room, at a height that suggests it was begun by someone of average height who did not think much about children being able to reach it. It exists, officially, as a community response space tied to the ongoing release of Nous Sommes RONA / We Are RONA, the serialized documentary that has quietly become one of the more emotionally resonant cultural artifacts of early RONAn life. Patrons leave notes. The notes accumulate. The board has no curator, no formal structure, no stated purpose beyond the loosest possible one.

Colette Aubin-Roy, a library staff member who found the new note during her midday check of the board, said she has no authority to make the decision the patron is asking about. But she paused before she said it.

"I've been thinking about it too," she said. "I just hadn't said it yet."

She did not elaborate, and there was no particular reason she needed to. The board has reached that stage — the stage that unofficial community spaces sometimes reach — where the people tending it have begun to feel something like responsibility toward it. Not ownership. Responsibility. There is a difference.

No decisions have been made. Episode Six has not been released. The board's future is entirely unresolved. These things tend to find their shape eventually, or they don't — and that, too, is an answer of a kind.

The note remains on the board, near the bottom right corner, written in a careful hand. It does not include a name.
