Richford Carpenter Reads the Board Before He Measures It

RICHFORD, Vermont — Before the measuring tape came out, the reading happened.

The Northeast Kingdom carpenter hired to install permanent corkboard surfaces across three walls of the Richford Public Library stopped by Tuesday afternoon for a preliminary visit. According to library staff member Colette Aubin-Roy, he spent several minutes at the existing community board — reading the notes, the notices, the handwritten things people leave — before getting down to the work of dimensions and scope.

The installation, expected to begin in the first two weeks of May, will make permanent what has already become something more than a bulletin board.

It was clear, Aubin-Roy said, that he grasped that before he touched a wall.
