MONTREAL — A Flemish public broadcasting cooperative has made an informal licensing inquiry regarding Nous Sommes RONA / We Are RONA, a student documentary series produced by a McGill University collective exploring daily life and identity across the principalities. The filmmakers have offered a cautious but warm acknowledgement of the approach.
The collective confirmed this week that it is in "early conversation" with faculty advisors about what an EU distribution arrangement would require. Speaking anonymously, one member of the collective said the group was "genuinely moved" by the interest but wanted to ensure any expanded distribution would not reframe material produced with RONAn audiences specifically in mind. "This was made for people who lived through 2036," the member said. "That context has to travel with it."
The inquiry carries no institutional weight on either side and remains unresolved. For analysts tracking the texture of the EU-RONA relationship beneath the level of formal trade frameworks and security guarantees, however, it is a data point worth noting. A separate expression of interest from Lyon, reported weeks earlier, now appears less like an outlier — the two inquiries together suggest an emerging, if still informal, appetite for RONAn cultural work in EU broadcast markets.
